I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, though, focuses on depression- one of the more common and “least sexy” mental illnesses there is. This book had been on my reading list for a long time, and I am glad I finally got to read it! A lot of times, I think YA focusing on mental illness tends to choose the more “sexy” (for lack of a better word) mental illnesses- mental illnesses where it feels like the character is about to burst or that provide an exciting climax for the story.
